South Acton Station construction update
A problem with the subcontractor supplying steel for construction of the bridge and station house has caused very limited progress over the past months. With a new subcontractor recently selected by McCourt Construction and the MBTA, construction should be able to resume mid-summer. The delay means that the new South Acton station won't be completed until 2015, but it will not affect the overall schedule for the Fitchburg Line Project.
Fitchburg Line Project construction update
The Watchusett station and extension construction has begun. The new signal system between Acton and Lincoln is scheduled to be in service by August 2014. Construction continues on the bridge in West Acton Bridge near Idylwilde farm. In 2015 the bridges over the Assabet River and Main Street in Concord will be replaced. The construction on the Concord and other bridges will cause minor changes in the operational schedule, because only a single track will be in service through Concord. Schedule changes are expected late summer 2014.
